The head of the Amman and Jordan
Chamber of Industry, Fathi Al-Jaghbir, confirmed that the Ministry of Industry
and Trade has begun to apply the principle of reciprocity on imports
In a
statement to Al-Rai, Jaghbir pointed out that applying the principle of
reciprocity with some countries would primarily serve the national industry and
would adjust the trade balance in favour of Jordan.
Al-Jaghbir
valued the role of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in responding to the
demands of the industry sector in implementing the principle of reciprocity.
The Ministry
of Industry, Trade and Supply had called on exporters to the Kingdom to register
on the electronic platform for registering imports into the Kingdom.
The Council
of Ministers had decided to start implementing the electronic platform program
for registering the Kingdom’s imports from countries that implement similar
programs as of 1/1/2022 in order to enable the private sector to identify the
conditions governing the program and to allow sufficient time to conduct the
registration process on the platform.
The decision
comes with the aim of strengthening mechanisms for quality control of products
imported into the Kingdom and with the aim of raising the level of safety in
products imported into the Jordanian market.
The ministry
said that the platform is applied to the imports of countries that apply the
same platform to the Kingdom's exports to it as a matter of reciprocity.
