The head of the Jordan and Amman Chamber of Industry, Fathi Al-Jaghbir, warned
the competent authorities against openness to the State of Syria in absolute
terms, explaining that the commercial openness with the State of Syria must be
studied.
In a statement to
Al-Rai, Jaghbir pointed out that the commercial openness with the State of
Syria should be based on the principle of reciprocity, in addition to the fact
that the commercial openness should be within a balance in order to preserve
the Jordanian industry.
He pointed out that
the average income of a worker in the State of Syria today is estimated at
about $30, which will create unfair competition between the Jordanian and
Syrian products, explaining that the trade openness with the State of Syria
should be included in the lists of imported and exported goods.
Jaghbir stressed
that the return to openness with the State of Syria, as it was in the past,
will increase unemployment rates if the door is wide open for Syrian products
to enter the Kingdom, pointing out that the trade exchange with the State of
Syria should be complementary between the two countries.
