The head of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Eng. Fathi Al-Jaghbir,
confirmed that the Cabinet's decision to limit government purchases to local
products is a possible and supportive step for the Jordanian industry.
Jaghbir indicated, in a press statement today, Saturday, that the decision will
support the competitiveness of the local product, and stimulate the industry to
produce efficient and high quality. He pointed out that the Jordanian
industry applies the highest standards that qualify it to compete with the best
industries in the region, explaining that the factories have great potential
thanks to the high investments that have been pumped to meet the requirements
of local markets. Jaghbir called on the government to support the Jordanian
industry in various fields, especially by applying the principle of reciprocity
with the countries exporting to the Kingdom.
The Council of Ministers has amended its decision to limit the purchases of
ministries and government institutions of government supplies to local
industries, in the event that there are at least 3 local producers, and
provided that the product meets the definition of Jordanian origin and has
obtained a conformity certificate from the Standards and Metrology
Organization, and that the purchases are identical Specifications and terms of
purchase contained in government procurement requests.
