A Jordanian economic delegation begins a visit to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad,
to discuss joint relations and solve all obstacles that stand in the way of
trade exchange between the two countries.
According to a source familiar with Al-Rai, the
Jordanian delegation will be headed by the Minister of Industry, Trade and
Supply, Eng. Maha Ali, and will include the head of the Jordan and Amman
Chamber of Industry, Eng. Fathi Al-Jaghbir, and a number of representatives of
the private sector. He said that the delegation will meet a number of
ministers on the Iraqi side and the Board of Directors of the Iraqi Chambers of
Industry and Commerce. The source explained that the visit also comes to
follow up on the results that emerged from the Iraqi-Jordanian-Egyptian summit,
and the positive results that resulted from the meetings held by His Majesty
King Abdullah II with Iraqi officials recently, in addition to discussing
obstacles and the possibility of exchanging experiences between the two sides.
Iraq is one of the most important export markets
for national industries, as our exports amount to approximately 1.4 billion
annually, which have fallen to more than half as a result of the border closure
due to the security measures adopted by the Iraqi government to secure the way
for the movement of goods. It is noteworthy that Jordanian exports to Iraq
reached their peak in 2013, reaching 882 million dinars, but they witnessed a
significant decline, reaching 330.8 million dinars in 2016 and 367.8 million
dinars in 2017, as a result of the closure of the Trebil crossing and the
imposition of customs duties on imports by the Iraqi government. to Iraq.
