Jaghbir calls for the application of reciprocity with countries that place customs and procedural obstacles to Jordanian exports

The Director General of the Customs Department, Major General Customs, Eng. Jalal Al-Qudah stressed the importance of the industrial sector in employment, providing job opportunities for citizens and supporting the national economy in hard currencies, as this sector proved during the Corona pandemic its importance in providing basic requirements for citizens of food and medicine.

During a meeting held at the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry in the presence of the Director General of the Income and Sales Tax Department Hussam Abu Ali and a number of assistant directors of customs and directors of the departments, the judges added that the department is in the process of establishing an export center in the Wadi Al-Yatam area in the Aqaba Governorate on an area of 20 dunums.

Through it, all export procedures for products are completed without the need to visit any other site, as this center will work throughout the day, in order to facilitate the exporting sectors, as the customs centers of Al-Dhulail and Al-Hassan Al-Sinaiyah will be abolished.

The judges indicated that the customs department will soon move to its new location in Al-Maduna, while the old customs site will be converted into a quarantine site for some commodities that need laboratory tests before being allowed to enter the local market.

Al-Qudah explained that the Customs Department has launched (8) new electronic services to become (98%) of its electronic services, calling on industrial companies to join the golden list of customs, which provides the joining companies with many advantages and facilities, noting that the national golden list has become including In addition to the Customs Department, there are (6) other departments, including specifications, standards, food and medicine.

The judges indicated that the department has developed the performance of its employees, and has also stopped some previous practices such as threatening arrest and detention in the event of non-payment immediately, in addition to obligating its employees to put cameras (audio and video) during their inspection tours, and with regard to manufacturing equations, he made it clear that new measures will be taken in this regard.

Especially, so that the factory provides the department with manufacturing equations for its products, provided that at a later time it conducts a random examination of some samples to ensure their conformity to these equations.

For his part, the head of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Eng. Fathi Al-Jaghbir, praised the great development witnessed by the Customs Department in terms of facilitating its procedures and making them electronic, as the industrial sector felt great and positive change in the way of dealing with industrialists, and called for the formation of a joint committee between the Chambers of Industry and the Customs Department to enhance cooperation and solve Any issues or problems facing the industrial sector.

Jaghbir demanded the presence of a representative of the chambers of industry in the inspection tours carried out by the Customs Department on industrial facilities. Jaghbir pointed out that the Jordanian industrial sector contributes to a large extent in providing food security for citizens, and that it has the ability to provide the basic needs of citizens, especially in light of the high shipping prices, stressing the importance of supporting the national industry through the application of reciprocity with countries that put obstacles procedural or administrative in front of Jordanian exports to it.

Jaghbir stressed that the industrial sector is best able to contribute to solving the growing unemployment problem and creating new job opportunities for Jordanians, which requires reducing costs and enhancing the competitiveness of this sector in the local and export markets, as studies have shown that an increase in exports by two billion dollars contributes to creating (85) thousand new job opportunities. During the meeting, a number of issues were raised, including the mechanism for evaluating the value of raw materials and industrial inputs, inspection tours and estimating the value of fines for taxpayers, the system of allowances for customs services on imported goods, postal parcels within electronic commerce, and the need to establish controls and standards for them.
