khaberni _ Commercial and industrial actors confirmed that Jordan today needs a "white economic revolution", to overcome difficulties and turn them into real opportunities through an effective partnership between the public and private sectors.
They said that the country needs to develop a national economic prescription that includes the appropriate treatment and draw an urgent "road map" that meets the aspirations, appreciating His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives to the government to set a quick and clear economic program of action.
They indicated that reform and the political track should coincide with another economic one, given that achieving social security requires a strong economy capable of facing the problems of poverty and unemployment, and improving the business environment to attract new investments.
They stressed that the coronavirus pandemic and its negative effects on the national economy call for taking bold decisions related to improving the business environment and laying new foundations for a strong, effective and influential national economy, to reach the desired growth rates.
During his meeting with the head and members of the Royal Committee for the Modernization of the Political System, His Majesty stressed that the political track should coincide with another economic and administrative track. His Majesty indicated that he directed the government to set a clearly defined economic program within weeks, linked to specific timeframes for its implementation.
His Majesty pointed out the importance of the program being in partnership with the private sector to achieve economic recovery as a result of the crisis experienced by the various sectors, and to achieve the levels of growth and employment necessary to move the wheel of the economy and development projects, and to improve services provided to citizens in a tangible way.
The President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Nael Al-Kabariti, stressed the need for parallel work on political reform, and a review of the national economy system, which is today a fundamental issue to achieve any development and growth in various walks of life.
Kabariti stressed that the government's partnership with the private sector is a fundamental issue for economic reform, and it is not a new requirement, as His Majesty King Abdullah II stresses the need to activate it on all occasions.
And he indicated that the partnership that His Majesty calls for means that the government and the private sector participate in decision-making, which has not been applied over the life of successive governments.
He said, "It is necessary to find laws that hold the decision-maker and the executor accountable, if he does not follow the law," noting that most economic problems stem from the large number of instructions that follow the laws, and deviate from its basic path.
Kabariti called for a review of the economic system, in terms of legislation related to taxes, investment, and others, and the mechanism for its implementation away from bureaucracy.
In turn, the head of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Eng. Fathi Al-Jaghbir, valued His Majesty's keenness to move towards the comprehensive reform process in Jordan, and His Majesty's assertion that the political path of reform coincides with another economic and administrative path.
Eng. Jaghbir indicated that such lofty royal directives calling for a future approach in various tracks confirm, beyond any doubt, His Majesty's vision to move towards the development of the Jordanian state at the beginning of its second centenary.
He praised His Majesty’s directives to the government to develop a clear-cut economic program within weeks, linked to specific time periods for its implementation, and in partnership with the private sector to achieve economic recovery as a result of the crisis experienced by the various sectors, and to achieve the levels of growth and employment necessary to move the wheel of the economy and development projects, and improve services provided to the citizen concretely.
Eng. Jaghbir stressed the need to follow His Majesty's directives, which always indicate weaknesses and imbalances, stressing, "Today we are in dire need of an economic program and plan capable of quickly and urgently advancing the national economy, and stimulating the work of the various economic sectors."
He called for the participation of the private sector in the stages of preparing the program step by step, and based on the priorities of the urgent economic sectors, to come up with a plan that finds their actual needs and stimulates their work, in a way that achieves the desired goals and aspirations of His Majesty the King, especially in reducing unemployment rates and creating more job opportunities for Jordanians.
He stressed the readiness of the private sector in general, the industrial sector in particular, represented by the Jordan Chamber of Industry, to contribute to the participatory approach and provide advice to the government, and with all the available capabilities, competencies and expertise to draw up an economic program that ensures a quick exit from economic difficulties and the current exceptional circumstances.
Eng. Jaghbir indicated that Jordan's industry has worked in recent weeks to prepare an integrated vision for the industrial sector that ensures the exploitation of what it has potential as the key and engine of operation in the Jordanian economy, according to strategic axes with specific time frames, and in line with the visions of His Majesty the King.
