Al-Jaghbir: The damages to the industrial sector due to the power outage are "limited"

22-May-2021

Alghad - The head of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Engineer Fathi Al-Jaghbir, said that the blackout yesterday, Friday, caused many damages to the industrial sector in the Kingdom.

Al-Jaghbir added to "Hala News", today, Saturday, that the damage caused to the industrial sector as a result of the power outages was less harmful as it came on Friday, which is a holiday usually for industrial facilities.

Al-Jaghbir explained that the damage would have been great had this interruption occurred on a regular working day, but the damage was limited and had less impact on the industrial sector than other sectors.

He pointed out that the Jordan Chamber of Industry circulated to the industrial establishments, to provide them with all the damages that were caused by the blackout on Friday, in order to access accurate statistics regarding the losses.

He pointed out that he does not believe that the losses will be significant to the industrial sector as a result of this outage, and that some industrial sectors have been affected, such as the plastic sector, due to the power cuts to furnaces and injection machines.

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eng. Hala Zawati, stated that the comprehensive electrical outage that occurred on Friday afternoon at about 1:18 minutes resulted from an emergency electrical technical defect on the Jordanian-Egyptian connection line that resulted in breaks in the high pressure line and in the power plants.

"We will work to verify the technical reasons that led to this defect and deal with the results in light of that," Zawati said.
