Al-Jaghbeer: The decision to require schools to purchase school uniforms from local factories supports the textile industry.

09-Aug-2023

Amman and Jordan Industry Chambers' President, Engineer Fathi Al-Jaghbeer, praised the decision by the Minister of Education to mandate private schools to purchase school uniforms from local factories. He commended the efforts of the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply in overseeing the implementation of government decisions aimed at supporting the national industry.

Al-Jaghbeer added that this decision, in line with a previous Prime Ministerial directive, contributes to supporting the local industry, especially the textile sector, whose exports constitute around 27% of the total national exports, valued at approximately 1.6 billion dinars.

He explained that the textile sector employs around 74,000 workers, accounting for about 29% of the total workforce in the industrial sector. The Jordanian workforce makes up around 25% of the total workforce in the textile sector, with the numbers of Jordanian workers witnessing significant growth in recent years due to the production branches of textile factories in various provinces.

Al-Jaghbeer pointed out that this decision will contribute to revitalizing complementary industries related to school uniforms, such as sewing workshops and local fabric traders. It will also lead to an increase in the volume of exports and expansion of existing investments in the sector. This is particularly significant as statistics indicate the presence of approximately 450,000 students studying in private schools. Local factories can fulfill the diverse uniform needs of various private schools across the kingdom while maintaining high quality.
