Alghad _ Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Dr. Tariq Al-Hammouri asserted the government's keenness to support the industrial sector, in the local market or export markets, where a number of official bids were halted because of its commitment to give preference to national industries despite achieving the quality requirement, in addition to the government applying a policy Reciprocity with countries that place administrative or customs barriers to Jordanian exports to their markets.
Al-Hamouri added during a meeting organized by the Jordan and Amman Chamber of Industry yesterday for the industrial companies working in the furniture and wood industries sector, through the application (ZOOM) in the presence of the President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry and Amman Eng. Supporting exports and tax incentives for the industrial sector, in addition to the programs launched by the Jordanian Foundation for the Development of Economic Projects (GEDCO), which aim to support small and medium industrial companies capable of manufacturing medical supplies, equipment and public safety clothing to combat the Corona virus.
Al-Hamouri indicated that the Ministry is currently working on reviewing Jordanian standards for the furniture sector in the General Organization for Standards and Metrology to develop an appropriate standard to be applied to imports as well as local industries.
For his part, Eng. Fathi Al-Jaghbir pointed out that the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply is familiar with all industrial issues, through coordination and participation between the Chamber and the Ministry, stressing that the Chamber will continue to hold these meetings repeatedly, especially with the industrial sectors affected by the Corona crisis, stressing the importance of continuing to Providing support to national industries to enhance their competitiveness internally and externally, as a result of the exceptional circumstance that the Kingdom is going through and the negative effects on many industrial sectors as a result of the Corona pandemic, including the wood industries sector, which is one of the sectors most affected by this pandemic.
Al-Jaghbir called on industrial companies to take advantage of the programs and services offered by the National Packaging Center of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, which works to provide Jordanian producers with attractive designs and innovative structural designs.
During the meeting, a number of issues that were of concern to the furniture and wood industries sector were discussed, which focused on the necessity of placing this sector in the list of the most affected sectors issued by the government, allowing companies operating in it to benefit from government support programs that were issued under defense orders, as well as increased imports And largely from China and East Asian countries, which exposes national products to unfair competition in the domestic market.
Participants in the meeting also stressed the importance of setting Jordanian technical specifications for furniture through a statement card that gives full details of the components of the imported piece and the country of origin to educate the consumer and prevent the import of goods of low price and quality, as well as the lack of commitment of some official institutions to give priority to local industries in the tenders that they offer, with The necessity of re-studying the evaluation prices approved by the General Customs Department, for the purpose of imposing fees on the imports of products in this sector, where the weight is often adopted when imposing fees on products imported from countries with which there are no free trade agreements.
The attendees pointed out that the exemptions granted to major foreign investments in hotels and hospitals are being used to purchase the supplies of these hotels from furniture and others from abroad, which has negatively affected national industries.
It is noteworthy that the number of establishments operating in the furniture and wood industries sector in the whole Kingdom is currently about 2500 industrial and crafts establishments employing about 10 thousand workers and with registered capital amounting to 65 million dinars.
