Alrai - The exports of leather and knitting industries for the first
nine months of this year amounted to $ 1.47 billion, with a growth rate of 8.8%
for the same period in 2018, according to the representative of the sector in
the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Engineer Ehab Al-Qadri.
Al-Qadri stressed the
keenness of Jordanian industrial companies working in this sector to provide a
sound work environment for workers.
According to Al-Qadri,
the capital of the industrial establishments operating in this sector amounted
to about $ 209 million, with a number of industrial and craft facilities in
excess of 1,200 establishments, and Al-Qadri emphasized in this regard with the
development witnessed by the Jordanian labor force in the sector, as their
number increased from 8,000 in 2010 to 19 One thousand workers in the sector in
2019.
Al-Qadri’s statements
came at the signing ceremony of the fourth collective bargaining agreement for
the knitting and garment sector between the Jordanian Association of Garment
and Textile Exporters and the General Union for Spinning and Weaving and
Garment Workers and the General Syndicate of Knitting Factory Owners, as part
of a better work program - Jordan, where this agreement came as a result of
efforts exerted and what Caused by previous agreements. Which was signed
between those parties during the past periods.
He pointed to the joint
efforts between the various parties, all of which helped raise the capabilities
and capabilities of employees and employees of the General Syndicate for
workers in the woven sector, focus on equal rights and wages for Jordanian and
foreign workers in factories, and the formation of specialized labor committees
in different industrial areas through training and raising skills for workers
In the factories and holding training courses for human resources managers in
the factories, especially those related to the subject of "respect in the
work environment", and intensive training sessions were held for employees
of the Ministry of Labor and during the meeting, the attendees discussed

industry sector and the development of a work environment that attracts
Jordanian workers specifically in this sector.

Better Work - Jordan is part of the Better Global joint work program between
the International Labor Organization and the International Finance Corporation,
which aims to improve working conditions and enhance competitiveness in the
garment industry in Jordan.
