Alrai - The Commissioner of Tourism and Economic Affairs at the Aqaba
Special Economic Zone Authority, Sharhabeel Madi, said that the total number of
investment companies whose licenses were renewed during the current year
amounted to 1255 companies, compared to 959 companies last year.
Madi said in a
statement to the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) on the sidelines of the
Parliamentary Economic and Investment Committee meeting today, Sunday, that
Aqaba is witnessing progress in terms of investment in light of the existence
of an investment window that is the first at the level of Jordan, explaining
that the total of companies that did not renew their licenses amounted to 250
companies.
They are mostly fictitious companies and do not affect the
investment environment. Madi explained that the number of companies that
registered for the first time during the past year amounted to 180 companies,
while the number of companies during the current year reached 196 companies. He also pointed to the
tourism activity taking place in the region and the high number of tourists
until the end of the year, where it is expected to exceed one million and one
hundred thousand tourists.
