Alddustour - The Jordanian-Kuwaiti Businessmen Forum
discussed on Monday ways of developing economic and trade relations and
investment opportunities between the two countries.
During the forum, which was organized by the Jordanian
Chambers of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Kuwait Public
Authority for Industry, bilateral meetings were held between Jordanian
companies and their Kuwaiti counterparts in the sectors of food, construction,
plastic, engineering and electrical industries.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Dr. Tariq
Al-Hammouri said that the Kuwaiti-Jordanian relations witnessed a significant
and tangible development at all political, economic and trade levels thanks to
the leadership of the two brotherly countries.
Al-Hammouri pointed out that Jordan is
continuously looking to strengthen its trade and economic relations with the
State of Kuwait through holding more meetings between the two sides and
expanding the horizons of cooperation through agreements and bilateral
cooperation protocols.
Kuwaiti Ambassador to Amman Aziz Al-Daihani said that
Jordan and Kuwait have distinguished relations in all fields with the efforts
of the leadership of the Al-Sabah family in Kuwait and the Hashemite’s in
Jordan.
He said that the political language of Jordan and
Kuwait is the same and that the two countries' positions on many issues are
identical.
He added that Kuwait's ranking in the first place in
the volume of investments in Jordan reflects the aspirations of the Kuwaiti
leadership in achieving further cooperation with Jordan and increasing the
volume of Kuwaiti investments in Jordan to the highest levels.
The Kuwaiti Ambassador highlighted the importance of
the forum in enhancing Jordanian-Kuwaiti relations in all fields, especially
economic, trade and investment, and work together to overcome the difficulties
that might face these relations.
The Chairman of the Investment Authority, Dr. Khalid
Al-Wazani, said that the investment figures between Kuwait and Jordan call for
optimism, with the Kingdom's aspirations to increase these figures in the near
future.
He said that the volume of Kuwaiti investments in
Jordan, which was distributed to many investment sectors, exceeded $ 18 billion.
He added that during the promotional tour we organized
for the State of Kuwait a week ago, we presented 35 investment opportunities
distributed to many sectors of investment feasibility for investors, and we
touched the interest of the Kuwaiti investor for those opportunities, and we
will provide a portfolio of investment projects to the Kuwaiti investor,
including All Governorates.
For his part, Director General of the Kuwait Industrial
Authority Abdul-Karim Taqi stressed Kuwait's keenness to continue joint
cooperation with Jordan in the economic, trade and investment fields.
He pointed out the importance of the Jordanian-Kuwaiti
forum in discussing new prospects of cooperation between the two brotherly
countries in many fields that serve the economy of both countries, noting that
through this forum will discuss all aspects of economic and trade cooperation.
He said that the forum is an important opportunity for
Kuwaiti businessmen to get acquainted with joint investment opportunities with
brothers in Jordan, especially in the fields of knowledge industries and
information technology.
"We want to establish a new phase for our trade
and investment relationship and a phase that draws strength from the
commonalities that bring us together to maximize investment, trade,
construction, and partnership opportunities," said Nael Kabariti,
president of Jordan Chamber of Commerce.
Kabariti pointed out that Jordan is a fertile land and
a safe environment for influential investment projects and has a positive and
sustainable impact on the economic environment in all its aspects.
Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Fathi
Al-Jaghbir, stressed that the State of Kuwait does not impose obstacles to the
Jordanian industries, and that the credibility of dealing between the two
brotherly countries has opened fertile prospects for cooperation in many
economic, commercial and investment fields.
He added, "We look forward to further joint
cooperation and joint investments in promising areas that serve the economy of
the two brotherly countries."
During the discussion session, the Chairman of the
Jordan Free Zones and Development Zones Group, Dr. Khalaf Al-Hmaysat, presented
a working paper on the importance of free and development zones, which is
considered one of the most important investment destinations in the Kingdom.
He said that the free zones offer promising and
sustainable investment opportunities through commercial or industrial
investment units developed for leasing, ready-made hangars for lease or for
sale on leased land, in addition to logistics offices, and will also provide
complexes and business centers starting from the new free zone at Queen Alia
Airport International.
The paper dealt with investment incentives in the
development areas, including specific exemptions from income tax, exemption
from all customs duties and sales tax, in addition to providing infrastructure
within high quality specifications, one-stop service, and no restrictions on
foreign ownership.
The meeting also included a presentation on the
Jordanian industrial sector by the Jordan Chamber of Industry, and a presentation
on the investment experience and investment environment in Jordan.
The forum also included holding bilateral meetings
between Jordanian and Kuwaiti companies, in addition to the contractors' union
meeting with the Kuwaiti construction sector.
