Hammouri: Significant improvement in many aspects of the economy

Alrai - Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Tariq Al-Hammouri said that there is a noticeable improvement in many aspects of the economy based on global indicators, pointing out that the government launched a package of stimulus measures for the economy two weeks ago, where it will study the results of those measures after six months to measure the extent of their benefit.

Hammouri said during a meeting with representatives of the commercial sector at the Zarqa Chamber of Commerce that 44 percent of the indebtedness suffered by Jordan is caused by circumstances beyond our control because of the difficult circumstances and conflicts that have overshadowed the region in general.

He stressed that he agrees with the demands of traders that they talked about and fully convinced of the problems that hinder their business, noting that this meeting comes in the context of listening to the most important challenges and obstacles facing the commercial sector in order to address them.

He pointed out that there are many shops and factories that have opened and started its work in exchange for many shops and factories that closed during the recent period.

For his part, Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Al-Nael Al-Kabariti, said that the region and the world are in a recession, causing slow economic situation, pointing out that the government has offered economic incentives promising a new start, as reviving the economy eases the burdens placed on the state. The Chamber has several proposals to the Government regarding the commercial aspect and the factors of its stimulation and activation.

President of the Zarqa Chamber of Commerce Hussein Shreim presented a diagnosis of the current situation in the commercial and service sector, in terms of recession, declining sales, high operating costs, high fees and taxes, high social security deductions, declining sales volume and closing a large number of shops.

He talked about the most important legislative aspects to address the current challenges that constitute obstacles to the commercial sector, namely the landlords and tenants law, the bar association law, electronic commerce decisions, regulations and instructions issued under the municipalities law related to the licensing of shops.

Shraim stressed the need to reconsider the tax burden, reduce the interest rate on loans, unify customs duties and taxes and treat all regions of the Kingdom as a special economic zone.

He pointed out that the contribution of the commercial and service sector in the GDP is 59.5%, where the commercial and service sector is the largest employer of 460 thousand workers in the private sector, where the number of registered companies 3769 companies with a total capital of 114.9 million dinars.

The Minister listened to the demands of the traders and the most important obstacles facing them in the presence of Zarqa Governor Dr. Mohammed Al-Samiran, Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Al-Shamali, MPs Dr. Saud Abu Mahfouz, Nabil Al-Shishani and Chairman of Zarqa Governorate Council Dr. Ahmad Alimat.

Hammouri was inspecting the workflow in the Directorate of Industry and Trade Zarqa and stressed the need to speed up procedures and facilitate the completion of transactions auditors.
