An attempt to double Jordanian exports to the Palestinian market

07-Nov-2019

Alrai - The representative of the catering and food industries sector in the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Mohammed Al-Jitan said that the government is about to double the volume of Jordanian exports to the Palestinian market.

He said in a statement to the opinion that talks are taking place between the Jordanian and Palestinian governments to increase and double the volume of our exports to the Palestinian market, and to provide them with some products imported from abroad and the Israeli occupation as of the beginning of next year.

He pointed out that the share of exports of food industries is modest, amounting to 15 million dollars, most of which are concentrated in many types of chips and juices, while the total exports last year amounted to about 150 million dollars, a large percentage of which is cement and medicines, hoping to increase the volume of our exports of food industries to Palestine for more. .

Among the obstacles and obstacles facing exporters to Palestine include the problem of transportation and shipping, the dimensions imposed by Israel on the volume of trucks as it requires that their load be less than one third of the original cargo, and the difficulty imposed by the crossings and the conformity of Jordanian goods with Israeli specifications.

He pointed out that previous agreements have been concluded with the Palestinian side to increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, such as agreements for mutual recognition of the certificate of conformity and quality, and the adoption of Jordanian specifications and standards.

The Palestinian government is seeking to implement an economic disengagement plan from the Israeli occupation, which depends on easing imports from Israel and replacing them with Jordanian products.
