Alrai - Ehab Qadri, representative of the leather and leather sector in the
Jordan Chamber of Industry, said that the decision to oblige private schools to
buy uniforms from Jordanian industry and not to import from abroad has
positively reflected on its local manufacturers and contributed to reviving and
expanding the industry.
The Ministry of Education
circulated last February a decision requiring private schools to buy uniforms
for students from the local industry and not to import from abroad, while
statistics indicate that there are about 450 thousand students receiving their
education in private schools.
In a press conference on
Thursday, Qadri expressed his appreciation to the government for restoring its
consideration to the local school uniforms industry and enabled Jordanian
factories to expand their investments, provide additional job opportunities,
increase production volumes and reduce production and operating costs.
He also praised the efforts of
the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply and the Customs Department in
implementing the decision with high professionalism and not harming the
industrial and commercial sectors. He noted that the Ministry of Education has
registered a remarkable attitude towards the Jordanian industry for its efforts
in making the decision.
He pointed out that the
decision revived the Jordanian factories, where factories were able to restart
some of the production lines stalled for some time, and the operation of
additional Jordanian labor in factories and workshops amounted to about 20
percent of the size of the existing labor, pointing out that a number of
factories took a decision to expand and increase their investments .
He added that the decision,
which came in light of difficulties facing the industrial sector, will contribute
to the recovery of complementary industries of school uniforms and sewing
workshops and local textile traders, increase the volume of exports and expand
existing investments in the sector.
He pointed out that the
maximum annual production capacity of school uniform factories in the Kingdom
is about 11 million pieces, while the actual annual production rate of
factories more than 4 million pieces at a time when the estimated need for
private schools about 3 million pieces and increases according to need and use,
which will open the doors of export, especially to He said that 15 factories in
the Kingdom have production lines to manufacture the whole school uniforms
needed by the private schools in the Kingdom, ranging from 7 to 11 pieces,
ranging from summer and winter uniforms to sports clothes. He pointed out that
about 85 operators make some pieces and form a whole. Factories Integrative can fully
manufacture school uniforms and benefit from the decision.
He added that the local
industry was able to meet the needs of various private schools in the Kingdom
of school uniforms and high quality, with a number of factories and workshops
up to 100 factories and employers, employing about 4,000 workers and 80 percent
of them Jordanians.
Qadri pointed out that there
is an orientation with the leather and knitting industry sector to set up a
specialized exhibition for school uniforms targeting the industrial and
commercial sectors and the owners of private schools, in addition to involving
traders and importers from outside the Kingdom to build links between them and
introduce them to the advanced level of the local school uniform industry.
