20-Aug-2019

Alghad- Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Dr. Tariq Al Hammouri said that a tender will be issued before the end of this year to attract specialized companies to determine the specifications and conditions for the tender for the implementation of the joint industrial city between Jordan and the sisterly Republic of Iraq in the future. Hammouri told “tomorrow” that the tender aims to determine the specifications and terms of reference for the establishment of this civil. Hammouri pointed out that studies for the tender are ready for some time, but the Jordanian-Iraqi company in charge of this file is still familiar with the successful international experience in this area to benefit from it as much as possible. It is noteworthy that the Jordanian-Iraqi industrial zone, which was announced at the end of last year, is located on the border between the two countries with an area of four thousand square kilometres equally between the two countries, equivalent to 2.2% of the area of the Kingdom. Al-Hammouri stressed the existence of continuous communication with the neighbouring neighbour Iraq to proceed in this file and overcome any obstacles facing the establishment of the region because of its positive effects and achieve common benefits

For the two countries.

It is noteworthy that the Jordanian-Iraqi Company for Industry responsible for the establishment of the joint industrial zone recently held its annual meeting in Baghdad and approved the amendment of the Memorandum of Association and the company's by-laws to add a purpose that allows the company to establish and manage the economic city so as to be consistent with the establishment of the economic zone between the two countries.
During the meeting of the General Assembly of the company, which includes the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply and his Iraqi counterpart, the Minister of Industry and Minerals, and the Board of Directors of the company was authorized to solicit bids and appoint a consultant once the completion of the basic requirements for the establishment of the city, which includes the completion of procedures for the allocation of land for the project and the incentives and benefits it will enjoy.

It is noteworthy that the Jordanian-Iraqi Company for Industry was established in 1980 with a capital of JD 20 million between the two countries. The Tarbell crossing is the only outlet linking the flow of commercial goods between Jordan and Iraq and was closed in 2015 due to the security conditions in that period and was reopened to the movement of goods and passengers by the beginning of September 2017.
