Almamlaka ــــ The Jordan Chamber
of Commerce said that amendments to the Standards and Metrology Act will
reflect "positively" on the local economy and "stimulate"
the business environment.
The representative
of the electrical and electronic appliances sector at the Jordan Chamber of
Commerce, Hatem Al-Zoubi, said that the amendments to the Standards and
Metrology Law made by the Chamber of Deputies during its special session
"are in line with international practices and agreements .
Proposed
amendments to the Standards and Metrology Law concerning the removal of the
requirement to export the infringing goods to a country Origin and allow the
correction of the product card will positively affect the national economy and
stimulate the business environment in Jordan. "
It is stated that
the Standards and Standards Act currently in force "prohibits the trader
corrective action on the product card, and restricts the owner of the factory
... The re-export of infringing products is required only to the country of
origin." However, other neighbouring countries in countries whose
specifications differ from those of Jordan, rather than returning them to the
country of origin; will reduce the costs borne by the importer and merchant,
which will be reflected in the movement of the commercial activity in the local
market. "
"Restricting
the re-export of materials that violate Jordan's standards to the country of
origin, as in the law currently in force, is a limitation of the international
trade agreements allowed for non-mandatory re-exports to the country of origin
exclusively," according to Al-Zoubi, who stated that " World Trade
has required the competent authorities to obligate the importer of goods in
violation of the technical rules adopted in the country of importation to
re-export such products to the exporter (country of export) or to any other
source designated by the exporter.
"Permitting
the correcting of the declaration card or so-called corrective action of
non-technical information, provided that the product complies with the safety
requirements set out in the Jordanian Technical Rule; will enhance the
transparency, impartiality and integrity of the Standards and Metrology
Organization's procedures and avoid personal judgment and temperament."
