Alrai ــــ Jordan and Palestine have agreed on a
number of mechanisms aimed at boosting economic cooperation between the two
brotherly countries in various fields, especially commercial ones, and working
to remove the obstacles that obstruct the flow of goods in both directions.
During the meeting, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Dr. Tarik Al-Hammouri
and the accompanying delegation concluded an official visit to Palestine on the
importance of joint action to accelerate the pace of economic cooperation and
face all obstacles, Investment projects in various fields.. The meeting was
attended by Palestinian Chairman Mahmoud Abbas at the presidential headquarters
in the city of Ramallah, Dr. Hammouri and his accompanying delegation in the
presence of Palestinian Minister of National Economy Khalid al-Asaily.
During
the meeting, Chairman Abbas stressed the deep brotherly relations between the
two peoples and the two brotherly countries in all fields.Chariman Abbas praised the great support offered by
Jordan to the Palestinian cause and the need to work intensively to promote
trade exchange between the two countries and develop it in the interest of both
peoples.
During his visit during which he opened the fifth Jordanian Industries
and Products Exhibition in Jenin with Prime Minister Dr. Mohammed Ashtayeh and
Minister of National Economy Khalid Al-Assaily, and discussed with them the
necessary steps to activate economic cooperation and maximize the use of
opportunities and fields available.
The meeting was attended by the
Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousif
Al-Shamali, Director of the Jordanian Representation Office in Ramallah Mohammed
Abu Wandi, Director General of Food and Drug Authority, Chairman of Jordan
Chamber of Commerce Nael Kabariti and a number of officials and representatives
of the Jordanian private sector.
He stressed. Al-Hammouri said that Jordan is
putting all its available resources at the service of the Palestinian economy
within the framework of Jordan's support under the leadership of His Majesty
King Abdullah II for the steadfastness of the brothers in Palestine and
enabling them to build an economy capable of meeting the needs of the Palestinian
people.
He said. Al Hammouri said that, in accordance with the national duty of
Jordan to provide all forms of support to strengthen the steadfastness of the
Palestinian brothers, the Jordanian government is working through the relevant
ministries and their counterparts in the State of Palestine to put in place the
Royal directives to support the brothers in the State of Palestine in all
fields, Mechanisms to develop economic and trade relations between the two
countries and to find commercial and investment opportunities for the Jordanian
and Palestinian business community, which is linked to historical trade and
social relations.
He added Al Hammouri said, "When we look at trade
exchange between our two countries, we find it far less than our ambitions.
Total trade in 2018 reached 207 million dollars and nearly 70 million dollars by
the first third of this year. ‘’He stressed that these figures put before us a
joint responsibility in the public and private sectors to ensure that they do
not retreat and work hard to increase them in light of the great potential
available to both the private sector of Jordan and Palestine”.
"Business
owners can benefit from market access opportunities for products manufactured
in Jordan to enter the markets of trading partners, and here lies the importance
of working to establish complementary industries between the two countries so
that half products manufactured from Palestine are imported and completed in
Jordan for export under trade agreements Which Jordan is associated with a
number of trading partners.
Al-Hammouri
and the Palestinian Minister of Economy have signed memorandums of
understanding to set a timetable for enhancing trade exchange as well as
cooperation in a number of areas, such as specifications. “The two countries
are facing major challenges and compromising projects for the Palestinian
cause," the Palestinian prime minister said after the signing of the agreements.
"The King's Majesty was at the top of clarity regarding the political
project being discussed on the right of return of refugees and the Palestinian
state.
