Alrai ــــ Minister of Planning and
International Cooperation and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Dr.
Mohammed Al-Assas discussed yesterday with the Undersecretary-General and
Executive Secretary of the ESCWA Committee Dr. Rola Dashti to discuss aspects
related to the technical cooperation program in the fields of information
technology, scientific research, transport, agriculture and other economic
sectors.
The ministry said in a statement yesterday that the minister stressed Jordan's
aspiration to cooperate with ESCWA in areas of economic and social priority.
The two sides also discussed the areas of future cooperation and technical
cooperation program during the period 2019-2020, which is expected to be signed
during the coming period. This program includes the top priorities of the
Jordanian government in a number of areas of social development, statistics and
information technology, transport, trade, scientific research, climate change,
water, agriculture and sustainable development.
The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation referred to the
importance that Jordan attaches to ESCWA and its constructive role in providing
assistance to Member States and public and private organizations to increase
and build capacity in accelerating the growth and economic and social
development of Member States and achieving sustainable development.
During the meeting, Dashti reviewed the work
of ESCWA, stressing its keenness to provide assistance to Jordan and Member
States to implement their own sustainable development plans and to achieve the
economic, social and environmental development goals through adopting a series
of ambitious work programs that contribute to overcoming a number of The
challenges facing these countries, including poverty, youth issues and the
empowerment of women, priorities identified by Jordan in its development plans.
