Alrai ـــــ The Department of Statistics issued its monthly report on
consumer price index (inflation), which indicates a rise in the consumer price
index for June 2019 to 125.72 against 125.07 for the same month of 2018,
recording an increase of 0.5%.
The increase was mainly
contributed by the rents by 0.51 percentage points, meat and poultry by 0.23
percentage points, vegetables, dry and canned cereals, cereals and products by
0.13 percentage points each, and education by 70.0 percentage points. On the other hand, the
prices of a group of commodities, the most important group of dairy products
and eggs, decreased by 0.26 percentage points, transport, tobacco and
cigarettes by 0.15 percentage points each, and fruit and nuts by 0.07
percentage points.
On the monthly level,
the consumer price index for June 2019 rose by 0.5% compared to May of the same
year. The main commodities groups that contributed to this
increase were the rise in the rents by 0.42 percentage points, meat and poultry
by 0.22 percentage points, transportation by 0.13 percentage points, fuel and
lighting by 0.03 percentage points, and culture and entertainment by 0.02
percentage points. While the main commodities groups whose prices
decreased were fruits and nuts by 0.14 percentage points, vegetables and dry
and canned cereals by 0.10 percentage points, milk products and eggs by 0.07
percentage points and oils and fats by 0.02 percentage points.
The report also
indicates that the consumer price index for the first half of this year
increased by 0.5% compared to the same period of 2018. The most prominent
commodity groups that contributed to this increase were vegetables and dried
and canned cereals by 0.37 percentage points, and rents by 0.35 percentage
points , Cereals and products by 0.26 percentage points, education by 0.10
percentage points, fuel and lighting by 0.05 percentage points. On the other hand, the
prices of a group of commodities, mainly meat and poultry, decreased by 0.28
percentage points, milk and dairy products by 0.16 percentage points,
transportation by 0.15 percentage points and tobacco and cigarettes by 0.06
percentage points.
The main consumer price
index for June 2019 (measured by excluding volatile commodities at food, fuel,
light and transport prices) was 130.8 compared to 129.0 in the same month of
2018, an increase of 1.4%. On the cumulative level, the basic index of consumer
prices for the first half of this year was 129.5 compared to 128.0 compared to
the same period of 2018, an increase of 1.2%.
