Minister of Industry,
Trade and Supply Dr. Tarik Al-Hammouri stressed the government's keenness to
activate the principle of effective dialogue with representatives of all
economic activities in order to improve the business environment and enable
economic enterprises to push the productive process through taking advantage of
available opportunities and addressing challenges that weaken their
competitiveness.
The meeting was
attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply
Yousef Al-Shamali, the First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the
Jordan Chamber of Commerce, the Representative of the Services and Consultancy
Sector Jamal Al Rifai and the members of the Tourism Committee in the Chamber.
The meeting is a continuation
of a series of consultative meetings held by the Ministry in coordination with
the Jordan Chamber of Commerce in the presence of representatives of all
commercial sectors and in the presence of representatives of a large group of
companies working in each commercial sector separately to identify the most
important obstacles and challenges facing the workers in these sectors for the
purpose of discussing Mechanisms to address. These meetings
concluded with a matrix of challenges and obstacles facing the Jordanian
commercial sector.
The Minister stressed
the importance of the services and consultancy sector in driving the medium and
long term economic growth through attracting foreign investments and employing
Jordanian labour through its sub-sectors related to transport and storage,
telecommunications, financial services, insurance and real estate.
The First Deputy
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Jamal
Rifai, praised the participatory approach adopted by the Ministry of Industry,
Trade and Supply. He pointed out that work is under way to develop a set of
proposals to overcome the challenges facing tourism agents, tourist restaurant
owners, important installations in the sector.
The service sector
consists of several main sectors which fall within the framework of the
services and consulting sector, etc. The current production amounted to about 5
billion dinars, and the total value added of the existing production is 64
percent, or 3.1 billion dinars, explains the importance of the service sector
to the national economy.
