The Jordanian and Syrian sides are
preparing a plan to re-activate the Syrian-Jordanian free zone once again after
years of disruption.
According to the Director General of the Syrian-Jordanian Free Zone, Dr. Khalid
Al-Rahlah, the plan currently under preparation will be submitted to the Board
of Directors at its first meeting.
He said that the work is currently underway to rehabilitate the region again,
especially its infrastructure, so as to ensure that all the requirements for
re-operation open to investors.
He added to Al Rai that there are more than (550) contract between the region
and investors, wondering about the possibility of returning all or not due to
the passage of time not a few to close the region.
The Interior Ministry announced the re-activation and operation of the free
zone with Syria on the border between the two countries after the suspension of
work since 2015.
Economic expert Ibrahim Awad Salem said that the re-operation of the region
will contribute to the development of all sectors required by the Jordanian and
Syrian industries alike.
Dr. Ahmed Khazaalah, the academic professor specializing in economics, said
that the reopening and operation of the Syrian-Jordanian free zone will enhance
economic cooperation opportunities between the two countries in various fields
and open the way for new investments.
Government Spokesman Jumana Ghneimat announced on 15 March 2018 the opening of
the Jabir Naseeb border crossing between Jordan and Syria.
The opening of the land border between the two countries led to the flow of
goods in both directions, the recovery of exchange markets, in addition to
moving the logistics sectors such as transport, clearance and others.
