The Department of Statistics issued its monthly
report on the Industrial Production Index, which indicates a rise in the
General Industrial Production Index for the month of March 2019 to 87.1
compared to 85.4 for the same month of 2018, recording a rise of 2.0%. This
is due to the increase in the index of production quantities of the
manufacturing sector by 1.51 percentage points with a relative importance of
86.0% and the electricity production index by 0.53 percentage points with a
relative importance of 5.8%. The Extractive Industries Production Index
decreased by 0.09 percentage points, with a relative importance of 8.2%.
The report also indicates that the industrial production index for the month of
March 2019 rose to 87.1 from 84.7 in February of the same year, an increase of
2.9%.
This is due to the increase in the index of production quantities of the
manufacturing sector by 2.14 percentage points with a relative importance of
86.0%, the index of quantities of extractive industries by 0.38 percentage
points, whose relative importance is 8.2%, and the electricity production index
by 0.35 percentage points, Its relative importance is 5.8%.
Comparing the indices for the first three months of 2019 shows a decline in the
industrial production index to 87.7 compared to 88.0 for the same period of
2018, with the industrial production index falling by 0.4%. This decline
resulted from a decrease in the manufacturing production index by 0.77
percentage points, with a relative importance of 86.0%. While the index of
quantities of production of extractive industries increased by 0.08 percentage
points with a relative importance of 8.2%, and the index of quantities of
electricity production by 0.30 percentage points, with a relative importance of
5.8%.
