Industrialists Demand «Jordan Industry» Pressure to Open the Recruitment of Expatriate Labor for Some Professions

13-May-2019

Industrialists called the Jordan Chamber of Industry to move and demand the Ministry of Labor to solve the problems facing the sector for a while, especially the problem of employment.

They demanded in the hadiths of Al-Ra'i to open the door to recruiting some professions from expatriate workers because local workers are reluctant to work in some professions in the industrial sector

They also stressed that the sector and the duty of the national preferred to replace the local labor instead of expatriates in addition to the cost of Jordanian labor less than the expatriate, but the reluctance of local employment for work in some professions and absenteeism reflected negatively on the sector and contributed to the disruption and rotation of the sector.

In turn, the head of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Fathi al-Jaghbir, said that the Chamber is following up the problems facing the sector represented by the employment facing some industrialists.

He pointed out that there is a committee formed between the Jordan Chamber of Industry and the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to determine the proportions required by the industrial sector of expatriate labor, stressing that the committee will come out with results soon.

The general manager of Balsam Food Company said that the industrial sector has been facing the problem of employment recently, pointing out that Jordanian labor is reluctant to work in some professions in the industrial sector. He stressed that the industrial sector is in its interest to employ Jordanian labor because it is a comparison between the cost of the expatriate worker and the cost of the Jordanian worker. The cost of the Jordanian worker is lower than that of the owner of the factory.

He stressed that the closure of the opening of the recruitment of the industrial sector reflected negatively on the sector, noting that the sector has been suffering for a short period of employment and demanded the Chamber of Industry of Jordan to move seriously and pressure the Ministry of Labor to open the recruitment of some professions in the industrial sector due to the reluctance of Jordanian labor to work in some professions.

He pointed out that the cases of absenteeism from Jordanian labor is a problem that stands at a large percentage of the local factories, pointing out that the employer does not have any procedures to deter the Jordanian worker in case of absenteeism except the warning and separation.

The owner of the Sweilem Taher Sweilem agreed with the Director General of Balsam that the industrial sector suffers from a real problem related to employment and the reluctance of local workers to work in some professions and the problem of absenteeism facing some industrialists.

Suweil cited an example of a worker working in Jordan for a while ago. The worker was absent from work after about 10 days of work for two days under the pretext of having special circumstances. He returned two days later to absent for two days, which forced him to separate him. Suwailm said employers from the industrial sector face hundreds of problems on a daily basis in cases of absences and delays

The owner of a factory in East Amman, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the suffering of the industrialists in the local workers and the absenteeism faced by the owners of the factories, in addition to the closure of the Ministry of Labor, is a problem that worries the sector in general.
