His Majesty King Abdullah II met at
the Husseiniya Palace on Sunday with a number of leading young men and women in
a meeting focused on the importance of finding proposals and solutions aimed at
boosting the business sector in the Kingdom.
During the meeting, which was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Omar Al-Razzaz,
His Majesty affirmed his support for the leading Jordanian youth and young
women. "We are proud of your enthusiasm and your gifts as the owners
of Jordanian startups and we want to unify your efforts to overcome the main
challenges facing you in the business sector with a clear and concrete time
plan," he said.
His Majesty also stressed that the establishment of a fund for investment in
emerging companies is an important step. He also pointed to the importance of
studying the proposal to establish a single institution for the leading
companies in coordination with the government.
The King pointed to the need for communication and cooperation between the
business sector and the government and related parties.
For his part, Prime Minister Dr. Omar Al-Razzaz said that the government is
keen to support and empower the entrepreneurship sector and emerging companies,
as well as with regard to establishing a fund for pilot projects.
The Prime Minister pointed to the importance of reviewing and developing
legislation governing the sector of entrepreneurship. His Majesty listened
to a summary of the preparation of the start-up companies, which included the
most important challenges facing the growth of the business sector, and the
proposed solutions and recommendations.
The solutions and recommendations included facilitating the financing of
start-up companies by establishing an investment fund to enable them to expand
and grow as financing is one of the most important challenges they face.
They pointed out that the creation of a single entity for leading companies and
support of leading companies will contribute to enhancing the entrepreneurial
environment. The speakers of the start-up companies confirmed that his
Majesty's meeting with representatives of the sector for the third time in a
month indicates the volume of support that His Majesty the King gives to the
entrepreneurs. During the meeting, which was attended by His Majesty the
King's policy and media advisor, the Jordanian youth have great capabilities
and represent a real capital for the growth of the Jordanian economy, pointing
out the importance of investing in creative young people in universities. In
a press conference, Mr. Al Shaker said: "The meeting with His Majesty the
King is part of a series of periodic meetings between His Majesty and the
leaders and start-ups that aim to stimulate growth in the business sector in
Jordan and overcome the challenges facing the sector. He added that the
business sector in Jordan has great potential for growth, which is the future
for the development of many different sectors. "One of the most
important problems facing the business sector is inadequate financing, both for
existing companies and for companies that will be established in the
future," said Udi Salamin, co-founder and CEO of Open Market.
He pointed out that one of the proposed solutions to provide financing to
start-ups is the establishment of an investment fund focused on the leaders and
expansion of companies, pointing out the importance of taking advantage of the
successful experience of Maktoob, which is a success story for entrepreneurship
in the Kingdom.
Hanan Khadr, Executive Director of Hello World Kids, pointed to the importance
of encouraging Jordanian youth to overcome their obstacles, to encourage young
people to establish entrepreneurial projects and benefit from their successful
ideas. He pointed out that His Majesty's meeting with the pioneers
underscores His Majesty's keenness to support the entrepreneurship sector in
Jordan and the owners of start-ups and his belief in the abilities and energies
of young people.
