Alrai - The ministerial meetings of the Economic and Social Council preparatory
to the Arab League Council at the summit level for the 31st session were
concluded in Algiers.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, Dana
Al-Zoubi, headed the Jordanian delegation participating in these meetings at
the ministerial levels, which were held over two days.
Al-Zoubi said in a statement today, Saturday, that it was agreed on a number of
issues of importance in the priority economic and social fields to enhance
joint Arab action, which will be submitted to the Arab Summit in its current
session, including proposals made by Jordan and approved by the member states
of the Council.
She added that they discussed issues related to food security and agricultural
development to move towards self-sufficiency in Arab countries, complete the
requirements of the Greater Arab Free Trade Organization, and establish the Arab
Customs Union.
During the meetings, support for Arab countries hosting refugees to reduce the
economic burdens on those countries was discussed, while agreement was reached
on an initiative to organize the Arab social work profession, promote volunteer
work, advance women's work, and ensure equal opportunities for both sexes.
