on Wednesday, it witnessed the signing of an agreement to
supply, design and implement a solar energy project using the borrowing system
on the main grid, between Philadelphia Solar Energy and Al Shams Specialized
Energy Company, which aims to provide the industrial sector with a capacity of
318 gigawatt-hours/year of clean energy generated from solar energy. The
signing was attended by Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Shams
Company, Eng. Tahseen Shdeifat, and Board Member, Muhammad Al-Oqdah.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Shams Specialized
Renewable Energy Company, Eng. Abdullah Al-Shawabkeh, confirmed that this
project is of strategic importance to the industrial sector, as the costs of
electric energy are considered one of the most important challenges for this
sector, due to the high costs compared to neighboring countries, praising the
cooperation and efforts that resulted in the success of this project. Which was
made by the Ministry of Energy represented by its Minister, as well as the
National Electricity Company represented by its Director General, the Energy
Authority represented by its Chairman and members of its Board of Commissioners
and the cadres of these ministries and institutions and to members of the
national committee that was formed at the beginning of the project as well as
the General Command of the Armed Forces that surveyed the land that The project
will be built on it, in addition to the great role played by the Amman Chamber
of Industry, which was the initiator in establishing the Al Shams Company for
Renewable Energy.
Al-Shawabkeh added that he expects to operate the project in April
2024, which is considered the largest solar energy project under the grid
system in the Middle East and North Africa, as it will contribute to providing
electric power to factories at preferential prices, which will enhance the
competitiveness of national industries in the local and export markets. The
project will be implemented in the Madouna region, south of Amman, where the
system will be connected to the national transmission network with a high
voltage of 400 KV. Philadelphia will use the Bifacial technology for panels and
the Single tracking system.
Al-Shawabkeh indicated that the project’s tender was presented
in the local newspapers during the month of September 2021, based on Resolution
No. (10) of the Company’s Board of Directors taken during its eleventh meeting
held on September 1, 2021, where Shams was keen to take into account all
measures and procedures. To ensure the achievement of the highest standards of
integrity and the principles of equal opportunity, and to promote transparency and
equality in competition among all companies that submitted bids.
It is noteworthy that Al Shams Specialized Energy Company is a
shareholder of (87) Jordanian industrial companies, where a consultancy company
was appointed for the project and contracted with it. The project, as well as
following up on the costs of the electrical interconnection station for the
project and the specifications of the components of the interconnection
station, through holding several meetings with the Director General of the National
Electric Power Company and a number of experts in the field.
