The share of food produced in the Kingdom in the local
market is about 52 percent, which makes the food industry one of the most
important sectors that contribute to achieving food security, according to
statistical data of the Jordan Chamber of Industry.
The data showed at a press conference Saturday at the
Chamber's headquarters that the food industries sector constitutes 15% of the
total number of industrial establishments operating in the Kingdom, up to 2645,
provided 50 thousand jobs and registered capital of 643 million dinars.
It also showed that the
exports of the food industry amounted to 531 million dinars last year against
525 million dinars in 2017, while the products reach 70 markets around the
world, and Arab countries are the trading partner of the food produced by the
Kingdom.
The head of the Jordan
Chamber of Industry Eng. Fathi Al-Jaghbir said that the position of the food
industry in the consumer came due to the quality of manufacturing and the
commitment of Jordanian manufacturers to the best international standards and
standards.
He added at the conference that the food industry has unique
advantages through its interrelationship with several other economic and
productive sectors to form an interdependent link.
He pointed out that the Jordan Chamber of Industry is
seeking to develop perceptions and recommendations to stimulate both the food
industry and the various sub-sectors, according to the principle of effective
partnership with the government of various institutions.
The representative of the sector of food, food, agriculture
and livestock industries in the Jordan Chamber of Industry, "Mohammed
Walid" Aljitan, Jordanian food is safe and high quality being under the
strict control of the General Organization for Food and Drug.
He cited the statistics
of the computerized system issued by the Food and Drug Organization of the
Committee for awareness, guidance and control of the industrial sector, where
the number of food factories covered within the system 1150 plants are subject
to periodic control and licensed within the requirements and specifications of
global food.
"According to the computerized system and index, the
percentage of closures of food factories covered during the past three years is
only 0.005," he said, stressing that the food items associated with
children safe, healthy and controlled, especially in school.
He pointed out the challenges facing the food industry,
especially the high cost of production and unfair competition from food
imports, especially from the Arab countries, and the absence of a policy of
reciprocity for neighbouring countries in the import of food products.
He called for activating
the law to protect national production to protect the local industry from
various forms of dumping and to ensure that it conforms to the Jordanian
standard specifications and to activate and approve the instructions issued
under the Economic Establishments Inspection Law. nspection Law.
