Abdullah:
“In the name of Allah the Merciful
HE Minister of Development Benny Mordant,
Your Excellences,
Dear partners and friends,
thank you. I am happy to be with you today. The relationship between
Jordan and the United Kingdom is a strong friendship between two partner
countries, who over the years have realized that they can rely on each other in
different circumstances; our friendship has continued in times of prosperity
and intensity. I appreciate the positions and commitment of the United
Kingdom and the great efforts of all those who contributed to the organization
of this Conference.
I would also like to thank all those who joined us and attended the Conference. Representatives
from 60 countries and major international institutions, leaders of
international financial institutions and the private sector are gathered here
today. Your participation is a clear message of support that the world
recognizes the importance of a strong and prosperous Jordan.
And thanks and appreciation to Jordanians and Jordanians; thanks to their
steadfastness and determination, Jordan has always been able to stand strong
and lofty in the face of external storms. This steadfastness and
determination are at the same time the source of promising and similar
opportunities before us. Jordan's youth in particular have a leading role,
and I am pleased to see a group of promising young Jordanians in this important
conference.
My friends,
I know that today's meetings focus in detail on the economic opportunities in
Jordan. So let me talk a bit about the importance of what you are doing.
Jordan's commitment to reforms has borne fruit, and we have been affected by
the global financial crisis, followed by multiple shocks that have affected
world energy prices and sources. The unrest in the region has also
disrupted major trade routes and cut off power supplies. The challenges
and consequences for Jordan have increased as a result of the Syrian refugee
crisis, an international responsibility whose members have not been fairly
distributed, with the exception of a limited number of our international
partners.
Despite all of these challenges, Jordan remains immune, strong and a symbol of
the values our world needs: mutual respect, moderation, determination and
determination, and human dignity for all. We welcomed the desperate
refugees and extended them a helping hand, as we have always done. We have
taken difficult and responsible measures to address the enormous pressures on our
economy and our balance.
But we will not be able to reach the promising future, which we know is
possible, with slow economic growth. It will not provide jobs and will not
secure the decent living that Jordanians desire and deserve, especially after making
great sacrifices. The support of our people will increase Jordan's resolve
to continue its positive and constructive international role in the ongoing
work for peace, interfaith harmony and development in the region and the world.
This is why Jordan has made a profound and comprehensive review of its economic
agenda to strategically refocus on its competitive advantages, particularly the
great capabilities of our ambitious youth. As well as Jordan's strategic
location as a point of convergence between continents and markets, as well as
the international respect it enjoys, which is the cornerstone of our
established trade relations and the numerous free trade agreements we enjoy.
As you will see and hear throughout the day, our economic strategy gives
priority to service sectors that rely on skilled Jordanian manpower, and has
tremendous potential to grow and provide wage jobs that ensure a decent life
for Jordanians and meet their basic needs, as well as benefiting from the
various trade agreements signed by Jordan to enable Its companies have access
to markets with a billion consumers around the world. We are also working
hard to shift to alternative energy production by taking advantage of Jordan's
advantages in solar and wind power. By next year, we are expected to
generate one fifth of our energy needs from renewable energy sources. All
these steps will stimulate economic activity and create jobs.
Jordan has already embarked on further reforms to create a business-stimulating
environment, and we are continuously working with the international community
to provide financial flexibility for economic growth; access to concessional
financing is essential.
Our economic strategy extends over five years to ensure sustainability and
sustainability. We will not wait for the current conditions to blow out on
their own. Today, you will learn about ready-to-invest projects provided
by an institutional project preparation mechanism, a Jordanian effort in
partnership with IFC to identify viable projects, as well as the required legal
and financial structure that investors seek.
My friends,
This conference marks the beginning of a new program and effort for economic
growth in Jordan. When you seek to realize the hopes of the new generation by
helping young people build a bright future, you are creating the conditions for
building a stable and ethical global economy, which depends the future of all.
If you think that I am talking to you today as a defender of Jordan, you have
become.
Over the past two decades, no one has witnessed and been prevented by popular
power. I listened to Jordanian families and saw how dedicated they were to
their work, generosity, and determination. I have never seen one of my
country's beautiful landscapes and witnessed its diversity as I have seen and
witnessed. I saw our cities being renewed by creative development projects
[such as the Abdali Project in Oman], and I saw solar and wind projects opening
up renewable energy horizons. I visited the five world heritage sites in
our country, which attract tourists from the region and the world. I saw
the proximity of our lush green farms and our port, which is now receiving
trans-ocean vessels. I met with thousands of Jordanian young men and women
who work for our future. Some of them are young computer programmers who master
Arabic and English, lead the region in the telecommunications sector and
produce Arabic content on the Internet, including business men and women who
contribute to building local, regional and global markets. The Middle East's
first flashlight, and many other young leaders and innovators. And all of them
are eager to work with you.
My friends,
In fact, if you have not visited Jordan recently, you have not really seen it. So,
I invite you all to visit us to share a bright future.
Economic leadership, by nature, is linked to the ability to anticipate the
future. And your participation in this conference by presenting future
visions that send a strong message of hope to our peoples. This conference
carries the slogan "Growth and Opportunity". I invite you to
translate this slogan into your actions and efforts on this day and in the next
days. I wish you success and success.
Thank you".
