Jordan Chamber of Industry will organize a Jordanian-Iraqi
Business Forum to discuss ways of developing trade and investment relations and
building on the achievements of economic agreements between the two countries.
The forum is attended by Minister of Industry, Trade and
Supply Dr. Tarek Al-Hamouri, Iraqi Minister of Industry and Minerals Dr. Saleh
Al-Jubouri, representatives of the private sector and businessmen from both
countries.
On the other hand, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Dr.
Tareq Al-Hamouri, and his Iraqi counterpart, Iraqi Minister of Industry and
Trade Dr. Saleh Al-Jubouri, on Saturday held a press conference to discuss the
latest developments and measures taken by both sides to enhance trade and
economic relations between the two countries.
The Jordanian and Iraqi sides agreed during their recent
talks on the formation of a committee of the two countries to solve the
problems of outstanding financial claims years ago and will submit its report within
a month.
Hamouri said during a press conference held recently that
the consensus reached by both sides serves the interests and aspirations of
both countries and peoples.
The Prime Minister, Dr. Omar al-Razzaz, visited Baghdad at
the head of a large delegation of ministers. There were reciprocal visits
between the officials of the two countries and the holding of 25 ministerial
meetings. He said that what was achieved so far was not a coincidence but a
translation of the precise work and translation of the royal visit to Iraq and
the visit of the Iraqi president to Jordan. , In addition to a weekly contact
between him and his Iraqi counterpart, praising the great effort of the
embassies of the two countries to translate these agreements on the ground.
Al-Hamwi pointed out that there was agreement on the
establishment of an Iraqi-Jordanian industrial zone on the border and there
will be technical committees to follow up on this matter.
He said that it was agreed to exempt the Iraqi goods coming
through the port of Aqaba from 75% of the handling fees at the port, and the
transition from the exchange of goods on Trebil and convert them to direct
transport from the source to the consumer, where the Iraqi carrier can enter
Jordan without emptying goods at the border,Which will reduce the cost of
transport and duration, explaining that an agreement will be signed between
Royal Jordanian and Iraqi Airways to use the same code according to a certain
mechanism so that the traveller through these lines to access all destinations
of Jordanian property.
Al-Hamouri said that Jordan will provide electricity to Iraq
and technical studies will be completed within 3 months and the link will be
implemented on the ground in less than two years.
Al-Hamouri said that the oil pipeline will be studied during
the coming period. It was also agreed to sell Iraq 10,000 barrels of oil per
day, taking into account the cost of transport and the different specifications
in calculating the price of oil, which will open the door to export Iraqi oil
to Jordan, Increased transport and truck traffic on both sides.
He referred to the agreements related to the economic
sector. The Iraqi government has taken a decision to exempt 792 customs duties,
which was adopted in 2017, and was not implemented on the ground after
discussions, and there was concern that there are Iraqi products that may
affect this decision. After reviewing the list of exempted goods Between 350
and 390 items may be published within two days at the latest, and these products
are not manufactured or produced in Iraq or do not meet the need of the Iraqi
market adequately. He pointed out that it was agreed to give priority to the
agricultural products of the two countries when they are scarce.
It was also agreed on the mutual registration of medicines
in Jordan and Iraq and the provision of Jordanian services and expertise in the
health sector to serve Iraq.
He pointed out that Jordan has decided to allow the
Federation of Chambers of Commerce in Iraq to receive visa applications to come
to Jordan by businessmen to run them. The Iraqi side also agreed to lease a
site dedicated to the establishment of a permanent Jordanian exhibition within
the land of the Baghdad International Fair to display Jordanian products.
