Iraqi Prime
Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi said in a joint press conference with Prime Minister
Omar al-Razzaz in the Iraqi capital Baghdad that Iraq agreed with Jordan to
establish a joint industrial zone on an area of 24 km 2.
According to
a joint statement of the official talks between the Iraqi and Jordanian
delegations, approved land allocation on the Iraqi-Jordanian border to reach a
depth of 2 km on both sides of the border, and a length of 6 km for the
Jordanian company and grant them the necessary exemptions.
It was
agreed to finalize the tender request for the preparation of the technical
standard for the joint Jordanian-Iraqi industrial zone by February 2, 2018, in
preparation for the company to present the industrial area to the private
sector for operation and management on the principle of (construction -
operation - transport).
According to
the statement, imported Iraqi goods were granted facilities through Aqaba,
whose final destination is Iraq, a deduction of 75% of the fees charged by
Aqaba Economic Authority.
The two
sides agreed to open the Jordanian-Iraqi border crossings (Karama-Trebil) in
front of the door to door traffic to start flights of perishable goods on
February 2, and to include miscellaneous goods thereafter.
The Iraqi
Council of Ministers decided in 2017 to exempt a number of Jordanian goods from
customs as of February 2.
In the
energy sector, it was agreed on the Jordanian-Iraqi electricity connection
through the network of linking, where the memorandum of understanding was
signed in this regard, in the presence of the prime ministers of the two
countries.
The two
sides agreed in the memorandum to take the necessary measures to accelerate the
process of exchanging electricity between the two parties through the direct
electrical connection to the electricity networks of Iraq and Jordan.
In addition,
the two parties agreed to conclude during the first quarter of 2019 of the
framework agreement for the Iraqi-Jordanian pipeline, which will extend from
Basra through Haditha to Aqaba.
Jordan and
Iraq also agreed to reach technical committees to determine the details of
transport and pricing for the export of Iraqi crude oil to Jordan before
February 2.
State
Minister for Information and Government Spokeswoman Jumana Ghneimat said the
visit would open gates between Amman and Baghdad next year.
