Al-Jaghbair: The Establishment of An Iraqi-Jordanian Businessmen Council to Promote Trade Exchange

The head of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Engineer Fathi Al-Jaghbair, announced the signing of an agreement between the Jordanian Chambers of Industry and the Iraqi Business Council to establish an Iraqi-Jordanian businessmen council to enhance trade exchange between the two countries.

Eng. Al-Jaghbair pointed out that the agreement also aims at developing cooperation in the field of trade exchange, establishing partnerships, investment and services, and establishing joint projects between the two countries, including the joint industrial zone.

He announced the necessary recommendations to enhance trade exchange between the two countries and encourage businessmen in both countries to participate in trade fairs and increase exchange of visits of economic delegations.

Al-Jaghbair described the visit to Iraq as "successful" at all levels, pointing out that the Jordanian delegation that visited Iraq under the chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Dr. Rajai Al-Muasher discussed the list of Jordanian goods required to be exempted from the customs duties imposed by Iraq on all its imports, On the border between the two countries, which will contribute to enhancing trade exchange between the two countries.

He pointed out that the visit witnessed bilateral working meetings between Jordanian industrialists and their counterparts from the Iraqi side, where a number of deals were agreed along with discussing mechanisms of joint cooperation.

Engineer al-Jaghbair stressed that the Iraqi side expressed a genuine desire to strengthen relations between the two countries in all fields, especially the economic side.

He added that such visits, which are witnessing official participation, underline the government's keenness to activate the partnership between the public and private sectors, and indicate the effectiveness of this partnership in the case of implementation, expressing his hope that this visit is the first of the visit to other targeted markets, including Syria and Algeria.

The Jordanian exports to Iraq peaked in 2013, reaching 882 million dinars, but it witnessed a significant decline thereafter to reach 367 million dinars during the last two years, as a result of the closure of the crossing and the imposition of Iraqi government customs duties on imports to Iraq.
