An Iraqi source informed that the Iraqi
government informed Jordan of the decision to exempt 300 commodities locally
manufactured in Jordan from customs duties imposed by Iraq on imports from
abroad and estimated at 30% as of early next year.
The royal source pointed out
that the royal efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II with the Iraqi
leaders and communication with them in this regard led to the exclusion of
Jordanian goods from customs duties imposed by the Iraqi government to protect
the local industry.
The source added that these
commodities are among the goods that have been studied and will be added to
other goods if the studies prove that they will not look at the local Iraqi
industries and the presence of an Iraqi alternative. He pointed out that Iraq
deals with Jordan different treatment for the services and support provided by
Jordan during the war Iraq on terrorism and its past years.
The source said that the list
of goods will be announced by the Jordanian side represented by the Ministry of
Industry and Trade and Jordan Chamber of Industry.
Iraq has imposed a 30% tax on
exports to it, including Jordan as part of its program to protect its national
industry and Iraq is one of the most important export markets for national
industries, where our exports are about 1.4 billion a year fell to more than
half because of the border closure because of security measures The Iraqi

National exports in the past
two years have fallen to 40% in Iraq over the last two years, reaching $ 695
million last year and $ 1.2 billion in 2014.
In the first eight months of
this year, the Jordanian exports to Iraq decreased by 40.6% to JD 212.3 million
compared to JD 357.6 million during the same period last year. The main reason
for this decrease was the continued closure of the border crossing between the
two countries.
