The Industrial Sector Demands The Application of The Principle of Reciprocity with Syria

06-Jan-2019

The industrial sector demanded that the government implement the principle of reciprocity with Syria, which impedes the entry of Jordanian products to it through its requirements and restrictions that are totally contrary to the mechanism of the Kingdom's handling of products entering our local markets.
The Jordanian Chamber of Industry confirmed in a statement that the Syrian government, since the reopening of the Naseeb crossing in mid-October, requires that the Syrian importer obtain an import license that allows the importation of Jordanian products in specific quantities and varieties, in addition to a wide list of goods.
The Chamber stressed the directives of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply to study the procedures of the Syrian government and work to establish controls and restrictions on Jordan imports from Syria, stressing the need to speed up such measures because of the protection of our Jordanian products in particular and our national economy in general.
The chamber pointed out that since the beginning of the events in Syria during the year 2011 until 2017, our Jordanian exports to the Syrian market have decreased or through which they crossed more than 150 million dinars, where the relative importance of the Syrian market out of total national exports decreased from 3.8% 2011 to reach only 0.7% during the year 2017.
The Chamber also stressed that it is important to work to support the industrial sector, the main pillar of the state of production adopted by the government recently, as this sector and its export advantages work to replenish foreign reserves and create jobs, which promotes sustainable economic growth, which we all look forward to.
