Extension of Tax and Customs Tax Exemptions for The End of The Current Month

03-Jan-2019

General Manager of Income and Sales Tax, Hussam Abu Ali, said that the income of the department from income and sales rose by 5.3 percent in 2018 to 4 billion and 115 million dinars compared with three billion and 906 million dinars in 2017.
He added in a statement to (Petra) that tax revenues increased by 209 million dinars as a result of the exemption of taxpayers and improve the procedures to combat tax evasion.
Abu Ali said that the department has moved within the framework of a plan to audit all sectors, especially that the studies of the department proved that there is a tax evasion in them, which contributed to increase the collection of the department.
He stressed that the decision of the Council of Ministers to exempt those who have tax assets from fines to pay the principal amount for the past years, achieved its objectives and increased collections as a result of the implementation of this decision to more than 80 million dinars, higher than expected.
He said that as a result of the taxpayers' demand to pay their taxes without fines, the decision was extended for one month with a 100 percent exemption from fines.
On the other hand, the spokesman of the income and sales tax department said in a statement to the «Constitution» that the government extended the period of granting tax and customs exemptions, which includes fines and benefits for an additional month ending on the 31st of this month to enable citizens to benefit from the exemption.
The 72 deputies had directed a memorandum last Sunday to Prime Minister Omar al-Razzaz demanding the extension of the exemption period from the tax and customs penalties, pointing out that this claim aims to provide the state treasury, and that the period granted to citizens was only 60 days from the first of November Last until Monday.
The deputies said that a large percentage of citizens have not been able to benefit from the exemption for not completing the reconciliation procedures and the holding of settlements as a result of competing requests, especially in the last week of this month, in addition to the difficulty of paying the principal amount sometimes.
They explained that some seek to secure bank loans or to borrow at the end of the year, which is difficult to obtain the necessary borrowing.
The lawmakers said that the amnesty law exempts tax and customs penalties, and that the extension of the period will provide the treasury with more funds due to non-performing claims. The number of cases pending in the courts is reduced to the income and sales tax department.
On the other hand, the income and sales tax director of the income and sales tax department, and its spokesman Moussa Tarawneh, said that any income that is realized for Jordanians or residents outside the Kingdom arises from funds and deposits from the Kingdom subject to income tax in accordance with the provisions of the law.
He added in a statement on Tuesday that the income of Jordanians expatriates as a result of their jobs and work in the country of alienation is not subject to the provisions of the Income Tax Law, and it does not have to be declared in income tax returns.
