Jordan to Import Iraqi Oil at Preferential Prices

Jordan and Iraq stressed their keenness to strengthen relations between the two brotherly countries in all fields, especially the economic ones, to reach a comprehensive Jordanian-Iraqi economic integration, considering each country's depth to the other. 

The two sides also stressed the importance of economic relations between the two countries more complementary than competitive to serve the interests of the two neighbouring countries and two peoples, in accordance with the directives of the political leadership of the two countries, stressing that there are great opportunities available to achieve the desired economic integration. 

This came during a session of talks held Wednesday at the Prime Minister's House, which was chaired by Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Rajai Al-Musher and Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Finance Dr. Fuad Hussein. 

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Al-Musher congratulated the brotherly Iraq for its success and progress in the political process and overcoming the security and political crises it faced during the previous period. He pointed to the importance of activating the role of the Joint Jordanian-Jordanian Committee to study all economic files between the two countries, specific. 

He said that the Jordanian-Iraqi relations are historic and have always been on a level of excellence and we look forward to developing them and developing them for the better, pointing to the continuing royal directives of the government to build solid relations with brotherly Iraq and develop them in all fields. 

Dr. Musher stressed that Jordan is ready to cooperate with brotherly Iraq and that Jordan's desire to cooperate is limitless, pointing to the repeated visits of a number of Jordanian ministers to brotherly Iraq over the past few weeks. 

For his part, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Fuad Hussein stressed pride in the Iraqi-Jordanian relations, which he described as historical, geographical and economic, pointing out that Iraq entered a new phase after the elimination of terrorist organizations and the formation of a new government that looks with great interest to all sectors in Iraq and development, especially the economic sector. 

He stressed the common interests of Iraq and Jordan, including the continuation of the fight against terrorism, the importance of this issue to the two brotherly countries and joint action to eradicate terrorism and eliminate all terrorist organizations and terrorist thought, indicating that economic and political relations and development also come in the priorities of the new Iraqi government. 

The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister said that this visit comes within the framework of the keenness of the Iraqi government and its economic team to discuss with the Jordanian side in the common economic issues and find common solutions to the obstacles facing them. The two sides agreed to hold more consultative meetings early next year to discuss all economic issues between the two countries and enhance their joint work to reach solutions that meet the aspirations of both countries and peoples. 

During the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of issues that would enhance economic relations between the two countries and increase the volume of trade exchange between them and ways to overcome obstacles hindering the relationship and strong economic partnership between Jordan and Iraq. 

In the field of transport, the two sides stressed the importance of activating the Karama-Trebil border between the two countries, enhancing air transport and maritime transport by providing facilities for importers from the Iraqi private sector. 

The two sides discussed the exemption of Jordanian goods exported to Iraq from customs duties, the creation of joint industrial cities and areas, the creation of complementary industries between the two countries and the establishment of joint investment projects between the private sector in both countries to improve the value of the Jordanian-Jordanian investment. The two countries. 

During the meeting, the two sides touched on issues of energy and electricity connection, in light of Jordan's ability to export more than 1000 megawatts of electricity to the western regions of Iraq. 

The two sides stressed the importance of this project to the two brotherly countries as a strategic project, in light of Iraq's aspiration to find new ways to export oil. The two sides agreed on the importance of activating the framework agreement in this regard and signing it. 

The talks also dealt with Jordan's import of crude oil from Iraq at preferential prices, in addition to the exchange of expertise, especially Jordanian, with the Iraqi brothers in the fields of energy, electricity distribution networks, communication networks and reconstruction. 

The two sides also discussed the file of the frozen deposit management fund and the question of the debt of the Central Bank of Iraq transferred to the Ministry of Finance. 

The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Municipal Affairs and Transport, the State for Investment, Finance, Industry, Trade and Supply, Energy and Mineral Resources, Planning and International Cooperation, Communications and Information Technology, the Governor of the Central Bank and the Secretary-General of the Prime Minister. 

The Iraqi Ambassador to Amman, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq and members of the accompanying delegation attended the Iraqi side.
