The Minister of Labor, Nayef Istitieh,
confirmed that the ministry considers the industrial sector the most important
sector in the national employment program, which was launched by the ministry
last April, as it is the sector that provides the most job opportunities for
national workers.
Stitieh added, during a meeting with the
industrial sector held today, Thursday, that the ministry encourages the
process of empowering young people in various sectors with the technical skills
necessary for the needs of the labor market, as the ministry will work to
establish a vocational training center for the bakery industry in addition to a
vocational training center for the retail trade sector, to qualify and supply
young people With the necessary training to qualify them to work in the bakery
sector and retail trade, the ministry will also provide additional incentives
for applicants to benefit from the national employment program, including
paying (500) dinars for each job applicant who commits to work for a continuous
year at his workplace, as well as providing an amount to companies that train
workers The new ones have it, especially in sectors that do not witness a
demand from Jordanians, especially in the stone and marble industry sector.
The head of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of
Industry, Eng. Fathi Al-Jaghbir, explained that this meeting comes within the
policy of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry to hold direct meetings
between the industrial sector and relevant ministers and officials, as this meeting
aims to discuss issues facing industrialists regarding the work of the
ministry, especially the issue of recruitment Expatriate labor and the
rehabilitation of national manpower, in addition to emphasizing the importance
of the role of the industrial sector in supporting the national economy and the
employment of national manpower, stressing the support of the industrial sector
to the National Employment Program, which will contribute to increasing the
employment of Jordanian workers in some targeted sectors, including the
industrial sector.
Jaghbir indicated that there are many
factories that have suspended some of their production lines as a result of the
lack of manpower needed to operate them, stressing the industrial sector’s
keenness to give priority in employment to Jordanians, as the percentage of
Jordanian workers in the industrial sector is about 90% if we exclude the
knitting sector, while The total number of workers in the sector is about (250)
thousand male and female workers.
Al-Jaghbir appreciated the response of the
Minister of Labor to many of the topics and issues that were raised during this
meeting, as well as emphasizing the need for the employer to agree to the
transfer of migrant workers to another site for work, and that the conditions
of expatriate workers should not be corrected until after obtaining the
approval of the original employer.
It is noteworthy that the Amman Chamber of
Industry hosts a directorate for labor in its building, for the purposes of
facilitating the completion of the transactions of industrial companies related
to the ministry, especially with regard to inspection and control of employment
in factories affiliated with the chamber, as well as receiving and studying
applications for the use of expatriate workers, in order to save the industrial
sector’s time and effort.
