Amman's industry exports rise 61% in 5 months

The Amman Chamber of Industry’s exports increased during the past five months of this year by 61 percent, compared to the same period last year 2021.

The majority of industrial sectors recorded an increase in their exports during the past five months of this year, with the exception of the therapeutic industries and medical supplies, which decreased by 18 percent, declining to 188 million dinars, compared to 228 million dinars during the same period last year.

Statistical data issued by the Amman industry, obtained by (Petra) a copy of it, show that the Chamber's exports are still continuing the remarkable upward movement recorded since the beginning of the current year 2022, with unprecedented rates of increase.

These figures confirm the ability of the Jordanian industry to overcome difficulties and competition in the export markets due to its high quality, which requires providing more capabilities for manufacturers, enabling them to increase production and expand businesses that generate more job opportunities.

The exports of Jordanian industrial products spread in most regions of the Kingdom reach more than 142 markets around the world due to the export of 1,400 various commodities.

According to statistical data, the Chamber's exports during the past five months of this year amounted to 2.858 billion dinars, compared to 1.777 billion dinars for the same period last year.

India, the United States of America, Saudi Arabia and Iraq accounted for more than half of the Amman Chamber of Industry's exports during the past five months of this year, registering a value of 1.559 billion dinars.

According to statistical data, the Chamber's exports to India rose during the past five months of this year to 652 million dinars, compared to 255 million dinars for the same period last year, an increase of 155 percent, making it at the forefront of Arab and foreign countries most receptive to Amman 's industry exports.

The Chamber's exports to the United States of America increased during the past five months of this year to 391 million dinars, compared to 323 million dinars for the same period last year, an increase of 21 percent.

Statistical data indicated that Amman 's industry exports increased during the past five months of this year to Saudi Arabia by 21 percent, reaching 278 million dinars, compared to 238 million dinars for the same period last year.

Amman 's industry exports to Iraq rose during the past five months of this year to about 229 million dinars, compared to 205 million dinars for the same period last year, an increase of 12 percent.

The Chamber's exports to neighboring Syria recorded a 39 percent increase during the past five months of this year, reaching 47 million dinars, compared to 34 million dinars for the same period last year 2021.

Amman 's industry exports to Palestine increased by 35 percent, reaching 59 million dinars during the past five months of this year, compared to 44 million dinars for the same period last year.

The Chamber's exports during the past five months of this year were distributed to the mining industries, with a value of about JD971 million, JD589 million in chemical and cosmetics, and JD376 million in engineering, electrical and information technology.

The exports of the sectors of the catering, food, agricultural and livestock industries amounted to about 282 million dinars, curative and medical supplies 188 million dinars, and leather and textiles 174 million dinars.

While the rest of the chamber's exports were distributed to the sectors of packaging, paper, cardboard and office supplies industries 120 million dinars, plastic and rubber 109 million dinars, construction 40 million dinars and wood and furniture industries with a value of 9 million dinars.

It is noteworthy that the Amman Chamber of Industry, which was established in 1962 and currently has 8,600 industrial establishments in its membership, employs 159 thousand male and female workers with a capital of about 5 billion dinars.

The industry, which today employs 254,000 male and female workers throughout the Kingdom, plays a pivotal role in the Kingdom’s trade balance, and contributes 93 percent of the total national exports, with a value of up to 5 billion dinars annually, while the volume of investment in the sector is 15 billion dinars.
