Jaghbeer: The renewable energy source linking system grants advantages to productive sectors and ensures the quality of energy-saving products in the local market

04-Sep-2024

The President of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Engineer Fathi Al-Jughbeer, commended the efforts of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, the Chairman of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, Engineer Ziad Al-Saaideh, and the staff of the Ministry and Commission, in issuing the system related to regulating the connection of renewable energy source facilities to the electrical system and exempting renewable energy source systems and energy consumption rationalization, No. (58) for the year 2024.

Al-Jughbeer pointed out that regarding the aspect of connecting renewable energy systems to the electrical grid, the cooperation between the Chambers of Industry and the government agencies concerned with the energy sector has contributed to reaching an agreement on issuing a flexible formula for the system that would maintain an attractive environment for investments in renewable energy. The system also opens the way for consumers from various productive sectors (industry, agriculture, tourism, and hotels) to connect their systems to the electrical grid in line with their consumption patterns through mechanisms for seamless integration between renewable energy sources and the national electrical grid, taking into account the competitiveness of productive sectors, of which the industrial sector is most prominent.

Al-Jughbeer added that many aspects were taken into consideration when preparing this system to ensure maintaining the feasibility of using renewable energy systems in productive sectors. Most notably, the flexibility of electrical clearing periods, allowing these sectors to establish, own, and connect these systems inside and outside the geographical location of the facility with generation capacity ratios of up to 100% for the majority of mechanisms provided by the system, in addition to exempting small and medium enterprises from financial allowances paid as compensation for network usage services.

Regarding the aspect related to exemptions for renewable energy source systems and energy consumption rationalization, Al-Jughbeer confirmed that this system would contribute to protecting national industry from dumping and unfair competition, as well as supporting other productive sectors such as agriculture and hotels. It also ensures that consumers obtain high-quality products that guarantee their safety and provide energy savings at acceptable prices through the advantages included in the system in terms of incentives provided and technical specifications defined for energy-saving systems.

Al-Jughbeer pointed out that this approach reflects the commitment of the Ministry of Energy and the Commission to support and develop the renewable energy sector in the Kingdom, and contributes to enhancing Jordan's position as a regional center for clean energy. He appreciated this important step, which aligns with national strategies and plans aimed at providing clean and sustainable energy that contributes to meeting the requirements of international commitments to reduce carbon emissions and achieve sustainable development goals.
